Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT or NIT Allahabad) is a public engineering institute located in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India. It was formerly known as the Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College (MNREC) before being designated a National Institute of Technology.
The institute is one of the 31 National Institutes of Technology in India and is recognised as an Institute of National Importance under the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education and Research Act, 2007. As a centrally funded technical institution, it offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in various branches of engineering, sciences and allied disciplines.
MNNIT holds the distinction of being the first college in the country to start an undergraduate programme in Computer Science and Engineering, which was launched in 1976–77. The institution has since grown to encompass a range of academic departments and continues to function as a prominent technical institute in northern India.
