Overview

Mother Teresa Women's University is a state university of the Government of Tamil Nadu, located at Kodaikanal in the Palani hills of South India. It was established in 1984 through the enactment of Tamil Nadu Act 15, with a focus on higher education and research pertaining to women.

The university monitors and offers consultancy services and research in the area of Women's Studies. Its academic and research activities are oriented towards examining issues relevant to women and contributing to the broader field of women's studies in India.

In addition to its on-campus programmes, the university provides distance education courses. The School of Distance Education of Mother Teresa Women's University was started in 1988 at Kodaikanal, extending the institution's reach to learners beyond its main campus.
