Morne Morkel

Overview

Morné Morkel (born 6 October 1984) is a South African-born cricket coach and former cricketer. He represented the South Africa national cricket team in international cricket between 2006 and 2018, primarily as a fast bowler.

Morkel made his Test debut in 2006 and went on to play 86 Tests for South Africa. In March 2018, he became the fifth bowler to take 300 Test wickets for the country. He also featured in 117 One Day Internationals and 44 Twenty20 Internationals, having made his debut in both limited-overs formats in 2007. On 26 February 2018, he announced that he would retire from all forms of international cricket at the end of the four-match Test series against Australia, and played his final international match in March 2018.

After retiring as a player, Morkel transitioned into coaching. He briefly served as the bowling coach of the Pakistan national cricket team in 2023. He subsequently took up the role of bowling coach of the Indian cricket team, which won the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, the 2025 Asia Cup and the 2026 Men's T20 World Cup during his tenure.
