Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal (MAKAUT, WB), formerly known as West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT), is a public technical university located in Haringhata, West Bengal, India. The university was established in 2001 through an Act of the West Bengal legislature and is fully funded by the Government of West Bengal.
The university is named after Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, an Indian scholar and a former Union Minister of Education. It was renamed from West Bengal University of Technology to its present designation to honour his contribution to education in India.
MAKAUT, WB offers programmes primarily in the fields of engineering and management. Academic activities are conducted both through in-house departments at the university and through a network of affiliated colleges spread across West Bengal, which deliver undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes under the university's curriculum and examination framework.
As a state technical university, MAKAUT, WB plays a coordinating role in technical education in West Bengal, framing syllabi, conducting examinations, and awarding degrees to students enrolled in its affiliated institutions, in addition to running courses on its own campus.
