Background

Mankind Pharma was established in 1991 by Ramesh Chandra Juneja, who was later joined by his brother Rajeev Juneja. The company began operations on a modest scale and progressively expanded its product range across therapeutic categories such as anti-infectives, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, anti-diabetic, dermatology, vitamins and minerals, and women's healthcare.

The firm built its growth strategy around price-accessible formulations targeted at Tier II, Tier III and rural markets in India, supported by a large field force of medical representatives. Over time, it expanded into the over-the-counter (OTC) consumer health segment with widely advertised brands in categories such as condoms, emergency contraception, antacids, and personal care.

Operations

Mankind Pharma operates manufacturing facilities in multiple Indian states and exports products to several countries across Asia, Africa, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Latin America. Its product portfolio spans prescription pharmaceuticals as well as consumer healthcare brands. Notable consumer brands associated with the company include Manforce, Unwanted-72, Prega News, Gas-O-Fast and HealthOK.

Research and development

The company maintains research and development centres focused on formulation development, generics and select specialty segments. It has progressively widened its work in chronic therapy areas alongside its traditional acute-care strengths.
