Kaushik hails from Bhiwani district in Haryana, a region long associated with Indian amateur boxing and home to several Olympic boxers. He took up boxing in his youth and was later inducted into the Indian Army, training under the Services Sports Control Board, which has produced a number of India's leading boxers.
Kaushik came into prominence in the run-up to the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, when he challenged the selection of Vikas Krishan and was eventually included in the Indian squad in the lightweight (60 kg) category, although Krishan ultimately competed in a different weight class. He represented India at the Games but did not medal on that occasion.
He featured in Indian squads at major continental tournaments in the late 2010s, gaining experience against top Asian opponents in the 60 kg division.
Kaushik was part of the Indian contingent at the AIBA Men's World Boxing Championships, competing in the lightweight category.
He won a bronze medal at the Asian Boxing Championships in the 60 kg category, marking one of his early major international podium finishes.
At the Commonwealth Games, Kaushik claimed a silver medal in the lightweight division, losing in the final to Australian boxer Harry Garside.
Kaushik qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games (held in 2021) by reaching the semi-finals of the Asia & Oceania Olympic Qualification Tournament held in Amman, Jordan. He competed in the men's lightweight (63 kg) event in Tokyo, where he was eliminated in the early rounds.
Kaushik is known as an aggressive, pressure-style boxer with a strong work rate, traits associated with the Bhiwani school of Indian boxing. His career reflects the continued prominence of Haryana and the Services in producing elite Indian male boxers in the post-Vijender Singh era.
