Manav Rachna University traces its origins to the Manav Rachna Educational Institutions, founded by Dr. O. P. Bhalla. The group initially set up schools and a higher-education college in Faridabad, which later expanded into engineering and professional education. MRU was created as a full-fledged university to consolidate and broaden the group's degree-awarding programmes in engineering, sciences, management, and allied disciplines.
The university operates alongside Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (MRIIRS), a deemed-to-be-university also run by the same group, with both institutions sharing a common academic ecosystem in Faridabad.
MRU offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes through several constituent schools. The academic portfolio typically covers:
The university follows a credit-based system with provisions for industry internships, project work, and research. Doctoral programmes are offered across multiple disciplines under the framework prescribed by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The university campus is situated in Faridabad, in the southern part of the National Capital Region, with road connectivity to Delhi, Gurugram, and other parts of Haryana. The campus houses academic blocks, laboratories, libraries, hostels, sports facilities, and incubation and research centres.
As a state private university, MRU is established and governed under the relevant Haryana state legislation for private universities and is recognised by the University Grants Commission. Administrative leadership is structured around a Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellor, and Registrar, supported by deans of faculties and heads of departments.
Manav Rachna University contributes to higher education in Haryana by expanding access to professional and technical programmes within the National Capital Region. Together with MRIIRS, it forms one of the larger private higher-education clusters in Faridabad, with a focus on industry-oriented education, skill development, and applied research.
