Overview

Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University, formerly known as Bhavnagar University and abbreviated as MKBU, is a state university situated in the city of Bhavnagar in the Indian state of Gujarat. The university came into being on 24 May 1978 and is spread over a land estate of about 269 acres.

The university offers teaching and research programmes across multiple faculties, including Arts, Commerce, Science, Medicine, Management, Rural Studies and Law. It thus caters to a wide spectrum of academic disciplines, ranging from the humanities and social sciences to professional and applied fields of study.

Academics and Affiliations

MKBU functions as an affiliating university, with more than 150 colleges and institutes affiliated to it. On its own campus and through its associated network, the university operates 20 departments, 60 postgraduate centres and 30 diploma course centres. In addition, four recognised institutes and research centres are associated with the university, supporting both teaching and research activities.

Through this structure, the university serves as a major centre of higher education in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat, providing undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma and research opportunities to students drawn from Bhavnagar and the surrounding districts.
