Lemon Tree Hotels operates a portfolio of hotels under multiple brands targeting different price points. Its premium brand Aurika serves the upscale segment, Lemon Tree Premier targets the upper-midscale segment, the flagship Lemon Tree Hotels brand serves the midscale segment, while Red Fox Hotels caters to the economy segment. The company expanded its footprint through the acquisition of Keys Hotels.
The company was founded by Patanjali (Patu) Govind Keswani, a former senior executive with experience in the hospitality and consulting sectors, including Tata's Taj group and A.T. Kearney. The chain was conceived to address a gap in the Indian hospitality market for branded, mid-priced business and leisure hotels.
Aurika is the upscale brand of the group, with properties in destinations such as Udaipur, Coorg and Mumbai.
Positioned in the upper-midscale segment, Lemon Tree Premier caters primarily to business and leisure travellers in metropolitan and key business cities.
The flagship midscale brand from which the group derives its name, present in major Indian cities and tourist destinations.
An economy-segment brand targeting value-conscious travellers.
Acquired by Lemon Tree Hotels, the Keys portfolio is operated under three sub-brands — Keys Prima, Keys Select and Keys Lite — covering different price points.
Lemon Tree Hotels is recognised in the Indian hospitality industry for its emphasis on inclusive employment practices. The company employs persons with disabilities and individuals from economically and socially marginalised backgrounds (referred to internally as Opportunity Deprived Indians) across operational roles in housekeeping, food and beverage, and front office functions. The initiative has been highlighted in industry case studies on workplace diversity.
Lemon Tree Hotels is regarded as a significant player in the growth of branded mid-market hospitality in India, a segment that grew substantially with the rise of domestic business travel. Its multi-brand architecture allowed it to serve travellers across price tiers under a unified ownership and operations structure, and its public listing made it one of the few large publicly traded pure-play Indian hotel chains.
