The surname Lepcha is associated with the Lepcha community, an indigenous people of Sikkim, Darjeeling district of West Bengal, and parts of eastern Nepal and Bhutan. Cricketers from Sikkim entered the senior BCCI domestic structure after the state's cricket association was granted full membership, allowing Sikkim to field teams in tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Lepcha features in records of Indian domestic cricket maintained as part of the wider BCCI competition framework. His career falls within the period in which several north-eastern states, including Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland, were integrated into the senior domestic circuit from the 2018–19 season onwards.
Players from Sikkim and other north-eastern states have contributed to the broadening base of Indian cricket beyond its traditional centres. Their inclusion in the BCCI's senior tournaments has expanded the geographical reach of first-class, List A and Twenty20 cricket in India.
