Lasya (Sanskrit: लास्य, Lāsya) is a female dance form that originated in India. In Hindu tradition, Lasya is associated with the goddess Parvati, who is described as having innovated and performed it. The dance is characterised as gentle and graceful, embodying feminine expression in classical performing arts.
Lasya is described in the Natya Shastra, the foundational Sanskrit treatise on the performing arts. Within this textual tradition, the feminine Lasya, danced by Parvati, is contrasted with the masculine Tandava performed by her consort, Shiva. Together, the two forms are presented as complementary aspects of dance.
