Lady Doak College is a women's liberal arts and science college located in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. Established in 1948, it is recognised as the first women's college in Madurai and is affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University. The college was founded with the aim of providing higher education for women in the Madurai region at a time when such opportunities were limited. It is named after Katie Wilcox Doak, a missionary educator associated with the American Madura Mission, whose initiative was central to its establishment. The institution was conceived as part of the broader Christian educational movement in southern Tamil Nadu, which had earlier produced institutions such as American College, Madurai.
Lady Doak College began functioning in 1948, initially offering intermediate and undergraduate courses for women. Over the decades it expanded its academic offerings to include postgraduate programmes, research studies, and self-financed professional courses across the arts, humanities, sciences, commerce, and computer studies.
The college was later granted autonomous status, allowing it to design its own curriculum and conduct examinations while continuing to award degrees through Madurai Kamaraj University.
