Kerala Agricultural University, Thrissur

Overview

Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) is a state agricultural university based in Vellanikkara, in the Thrissur district of Kerala, India. It is recognised as a State Agricultural University by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the apex body for coordinating agricultural education and research in the country.

The university serves as the principal instrumentality of the Government of Kerala for providing the human resources, skills and technology required for the sustainable development of agriculture in the state. Its mandate is interpreted broadly to encompass all production activities based on land and water, including crop production, forestry and co-operatives.

KAU pursues this mandate by conducting, interfacing and integrating education, research and extension across these areas of economic activity. Through this combined approach, the university aims to support farmers, allied sectors and rural communities in Kerala by linking academic instruction with field-level research and outreach services.
