Kazi Nazrul University (KNU) is a public state research university located in Asansol, West Bengal, India. The university is named after the Bengali poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, and was established under the Kazi Nazrul University Act, 2012.
The foundation stone of the university was laid by the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, on 10 January 2013. Anuradha Mukherjee was appointed as the first vice-chancellor of the university.
In May 2018, the university hosted a special convocation marking the 119th birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam, reflecting the institution's association with the legacy of the poet after whom it is named.
