Gautam comes from Himachal Pradesh and progressed through the state's age-group cricket structure before breaking into the senior women's team. She developed a reputation as a bowling all-rounder capable of contributing with the bat in the middle and lower order.
Representing Himachal Pradesh in the women's domestic circuit organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Gautam featured in the Senior Women's One Day Trophy and the Senior Women's T20 Trophy. She drew wider attention through standout bowling performances in inter-state competition, including a notable spell in which she took all ten wickets in an innings during a Senior Women's One Day Trophy match — a rare achievement in Indian women's domestic cricket.
Gautam was signed by Gujarat Giants ahead of the 2024 season of the Women's Premier League, after being one of the higher-priced uncapped Indian players at the WPL auction. The signing reflected the franchise's interest in young pace-bowling all-rounders within the Indian talent pool.
As a seam-bowling all-rounder from a state outside the traditional powerhouses of Indian women's cricket, Gautam represents the broadening base of women's cricket in India, particularly in the Himalayan states. Her domestic feats have been cited as examples of the deepening pipeline of talent feeding the WPL and the national set-up.
