Karaikal Port is a private, all-weather deep-water port located in Karaikal, an enclave of the Union Territory of Puducherry on the Coromandel Coast of southern India. It is one of the few major non-major (private) ports operating along the eastern coast of India, situated between the larger ports of Chennai to the north and Tuticorin to the south.

The port lies on the Bay of Bengal in the Karaikal district, an outlying region of Puducherry that is geographically surrounded by the Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu. Its position on the Coromandel Coast provides access to the maritime trade routes of the Bay of Bengal and connects the cargo hinterland of the Cauvery delta and central Tamil Nadu to coastal shipping and international trade.
Karaikal Port was developed as a greenfield project under a concession agreement with the Government of Puducherry on a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) basis. As a non-major port, it falls under the regulatory framework of the Union Territory administration, in contrast to the central government's major ports such as Chennai Port and V. O. Chidambaranar (Tuticorin) Port.
The port was designed primarily to handle bulk and break-bulk cargo, serving industries in the southern peninsular hinterland. Cargoes commonly associated with the port include thermal coal, cement, food grains, sugar, fertilisers, limestone, steel and project cargo.
The port operates multiple berths capable of accommodating bulk carriers and general cargo vessels. It is connected to the regional road network and serves as a logistics gateway for industries operating in the Cauvery delta region, parts of Tamil Nadu, and adjoining states. The port has positioned itself as an alternative to the more congested major ports on the eastern coast for bulk consignments destined for southern India.
Karaikal Port is significant as one of the early successful private port projects in southern India and contributes to the economy of the Union Territory of Puducherry, which otherwise has limited industrial infrastructure. By providing dedicated berths and faster turnaround for bulk cargo, the port supplements the capacity of nearby major ports and supports cement, power and agricultural supply chains in the region.
