Junagadh Agricultural University (JAU) is a public state agricultural university located at Junagadh in the Indian state of Gujarat. The university provides education in agriculture and allied sciences, with academic and research activities spanning agriculture, agricultural engineering and fisheries.
Teaching at JAU is organised across four faculties: agriculture, agricultural engineering, fisheries and postgraduate studies. The graduate programmes have an intake capacity of 135 students in agriculture, 70 in agricultural engineering and 30 in fisheries. Postgraduate studies are offered in agriculture and agricultural engineering, in accordance with the intake capacities of the respective faculties.
The university maintains a wide research network. It operates seven multidisciplinary Main Research Stations and five Main Research Stations dedicated to various crops, along with eleven sub-Research Stations and Testing Centres. These centres focus on the development of new varieties and hybrids of crops, vegetables and fruits, and also work on evolving economical and sustainable production technology packages for newly developed varieties and hybrids, with modifications introduced as required. Scientists associated with the university are credited with developing the first hybrid bajra and the first hybrid castor.
In June 2016, the university received public attention when its Food Testing Laboratory reported finding traces of gold in the urine of Gir cows.
