The Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) is a multidisciplinary research institute located in Jakkur, on the northern outskirts of Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. It is an autonomous institution under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, and conducts research and doctoral training across the chemical, physical, biological, materials, and engineering sciences.

JNCASR was set up to commemorate the birth centenary of Jawaharlal Nehru, with a mandate to undertake fundamental research at the frontiers of science and engineering. The centre was conceived under the patronage of the Government of India and benefited from close intellectual ties with the neighbouring Indian Institute of Science (IISc), with the chemist and Bharat Ratna recipient C. N. R. Rao playing a central role in its founding and early development.
The institute functions as a deemed-to-be-university, which allows it to award its own postgraduate and doctoral degrees. It admits students primarily into Ph.D., Integrated Ph.D., and M.S./M.S. (Engg.) programmes, alongside short-term training schemes such as the Summer Research Fellowship Programme that brings undergraduate students from across India for laboratory experience.
The campus is situated in Jakkur, in northern Bengaluru, and houses laboratories, residential facilities for students and faculty, a library, and guest accommodation. Research activity is organised into a number of academic units, which have included:
The centre also hosts thematic units and centres dealing with energy materials, sustainable chemistry, and computational research, and operates shared facilities for electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, mass spectrometry, NMR, and high-performance computing.
JNCASR is recognised as one of India's leading basic-research institutions, with sustained output in solid-state and materials chemistry, condensed matter physics, nanoscience, theoretical physics, molecular and cellular biology, neurobiology, ecology and evolution, and fluid mechanics. Its faculty have been recipients of major Indian science awards, including the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, and several have been elected fellows of the Indian science academies and of international bodies such as the Royal Society.
The institute collaborates with national laboratories, universities, and international partners, and it administers programmes that promote science education and outreach, including fellowships for school and college teachers and lecture series for students.
