Jai Narain Vyas University (JNVU), formerly known as the University of Jodhpur, is an educational institution located in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India. The university is named after Jai Narain Vyas, and it functions as one of the principal centres of higher education in western Rajasthan.
A significant portion of the university's research and development activity is oriented towards the heritage, society, and challenges of the Thar Desert region, within which it is situated. This regional focus shapes academic enquiry across the disciplines pursued at the institution, linking scholarship to the cultural and ecological context of the surrounding area.
As the westernmost university in the country, JNVU also undertakes research in the border areas adjoining Pakistan. This geographical position lends a distinctive character to its academic engagement, particularly in studies concerned with the desert environment and its communities.
