Jabong was launched in 2012 by Jade eServices Private Limited, a venture backed by the Germany-based internet company Rocket Internet. The portal positioned itself as a destination for branded fashion and lifestyle merchandise, competing primarily with Myntra in the Indian online fashion segment. It operated from offices in Gurugram in the National Capital Region.
Jabong was originally part of the Global Fashion Group (GFG), an international fashion e-commerce holding formed in 2014 that combined Rocket Internet and Kinnevik's emerging-market fashion ventures, including Dafiti, Lamoda, Namshi, Zalora, and Jabong.
In July 2016, Flipkart-owned Myntra announced the acquisition of Jabong from Global Fashion Group. The acquisition consolidated India's two largest online fashion platforms under the Flipkart group, while Jabong continued to operate as a separate brand for several years following the deal.
The platform offered a catalogue spanning Indian and international brands across menswear, womenswear, kidswear, footwear, accessories, beauty, and home products. It also featured private labels and exclusive tie-ups with designers and brands. Jabong adopted a marketplace-cum-managed-inventory model, with logistics and customer service supporting pan-India delivery.
Jabong was among the early movers in India's online fashion retail boom of the 2010s, helping shift consumer purchases of apparel and accessories from physical stores to digital channels. Its acquisition by Myntra was widely cited as a milestone consolidation in Indian e-commerce, strengthening Flipkart's position against rivals such as Amazon India in the fashion vertical.
