J.P. Nadda

Overview

Jagat Prakash Nadda (born 2 December 1960) is an Indian lawyer and politician. He is serving as the 34th Minister of Health and Family Welfare and the 25th Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers in the Union Council of Ministers since 2024. He also served as the 10th national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from 2020 to 2026.

Nadda is a member of the Rajya Sabha representing Gujarat since 2024. Regarded as a key decision maker within the BJP, he is a close aide of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He served as the BJP's national working president from 2019 to 2020 before taking charge as the party's national president. He has also held the position of Parliamentary Board Secretary of the BJP.

At the Union level, Nadda earlier served as the Minister of Health and Family Welfare in the first Modi ministry from 2014 to 2019. In Himachal Pradesh state politics, he was a Member of the Legislative Assembly from Bilaspur during 1993 to 2003 and again from 2007 to 2012. In the state government, he served as the Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Parliamentary Affairs from 1998 to 2003, and later as the Minister of Forest, Environment, Science, and Technology from 2007 to 2012.
