Background

Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad was reconstituted in 2008 from the larger JNTU system, with a mandate to oversee technical education across the Telangana region (then part of Andhra Pradesh). As part of its expansion, JNTUH set up constituent colleges in different districts to bring engineering education closer to students in semi-urban and rural areas. The Manthani campus was created within this framework, alongside other JNTUH constituent colleges such as those at Hyderabad, Jagtial, Sultanpur, and Karimnagar.

Academics

As a constituent unit of JNTUH, the college follows the curriculum, examination system, and academic calendar prescribed by the parent university. It primarily offers Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programmes in core engineering branches. Admissions to undergraduate programmes are made through the Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (TS EAMCET), with seat allotment carried out by the Telangana State Council of Higher Education.

Campus and location

Manthani is situated on the banks of the Godavari river in northern Telangana, historically known as a centre of Sanskrit learning. The college's location places it within the Peddapalli district, an area whose economy is closely linked to coal mining operations of Singareni Collieries and to agriculture along the Godavari basin.

Significance

The establishment of JNTUHCEM reflects the broader policy of decentralising higher technical education in Telangana. By operating a state-run engineering college outside the Hyderabad metropolitan region, JNTUH provides students from northern Telangana with access to publicly funded engineering education, complementing the larger network of private engineering colleges affiliated to the university.
