Production and broadcast

Ishqbaaaz was developed by 4 Lions Films, the production house run by Gul Khan, which has also been associated with several Star Plus dramas. The show was originally conceived around the lives of three brothers, and a major chunk of the early storyline focused on the equation between Shivaay and Annika.

The series aired on weeknights on Star Plus and was made available for streaming on Hotstar (later Disney+ Hotstar). During its run, the show underwent multiple format changes, leap sequences and time-slot revisions.

Spin-off

Dil Boley Oberoi, a spin-off centred on the characters of Omkara and Gauri played by Kunal Jaisingh and Shrenu Parikh, premiered on Star Plus on 30 January 2017. After running for several months, the spin-off was merged back into the parent show Ishqbaaaz later that year.

Reception and significance

Ishqbaaaz gained a strong fan following during its run, particularly for the chemistry between Nakuul Mehta and Surbhi Chandna, who emerged as a popular on-screen pair on Indian television in the late 2010s. The show is often cited among the notable romantic dramas produced for Star Plus in this period and contributed to the popularity of its lead actors. Phrases and dialogues from the show, including its branded use of "Ishqbaaaz" as an identity for the Oberoi brothers, became part of viewer culture on social media.

Awards and recognition

Cast members of Ishqbaaaz received nominations and wins at Indian television awards, including the Star Parivaar Awards and Indian Television Academy Awards, in categories recognising lead performances and on-screen pairings.

Conclusion of the series

The show ended on 29 December 2018 after running for over two years. Its time slot on Star Plus was subsequently taken over by other dramas from the network's line-up.
