The Indian Law Institute (ILI) is a deemed university and socio-legal research institute based in New Delhi. Founded in 1956, it was established primarily with the objective of promoting and conducting legal research, education and training in India.
The objectives of the Institute, as laid down in its Memorandum of Association, include cultivating the science of law, promoting advanced studies and research in law to meet the social, economic and other needs of the Indian people, and promoting the systematisation of law. The Institute also seeks to encourage and conduct investigations in legal and allied fields, improve legal education, impart instruction in law, and publish studies, books, periodicals and related works.
In keeping with its research-oriented mandate, the Institute undertakes academic activities and conferences on contemporary legal issues. It was instrumental in organising an international conference on the Global Environment and Disaster Management Law Society in 2011.
