Overview

The Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE) is an Institute of National Importance located at Vangali, Sabbavaram Mandal, in the Anakapalli District of Andhra Pradesh. It is a domain-specific institution established by the Government of India under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG).

IIPE has been set up at par with the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), with a focus on education and research in fields related to petroleum and energy. Its specialised orientation is intended to support the human resource and knowledge requirements of the country's hydrocarbon and energy sectors.

The institute receives support from major public sector undertakings in the oil and gas industry, including Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), GAIL (India) Limited, and Oil India Limited (OIL). This collaborative backing links the institute closely with industry and reflects its role as a sector-specific centre of higher learning.
