The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IIT Gandhinagar or IITGN) is a public technical and research university located in Palaj, Gandhinagar, in the Indian state of Gujarat. It is one of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), a group of autonomous engineering and technology institutes declared as Institutes of National Importance under the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961. IIT Gandhinagar was set up as part of the expansion of the IIT system announced by the Government of India in the late 2000s, when several new IITs were established in different states to widen access to high-quality technical education. In its early years, IITGN operated from a temporary campus at the Vishwakarma Government Engineering College in Chandkheda, Ahmedabad, before shifting to its permanent campus in Palaj, on the banks of the Sabarmati river, near Gandhinagar.
The institute is governed under the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961, with a Board of Governors, a Senate, and a Director responsible for academic and administrative leadership. Like other IITs, it admits undergraduate students primarily through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Advanced) and postgraduate students through GATE and other national-level examinations.
IIT Gandhinagar offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes across engineering, the sciences, the humanities and social sciences, and management. Disciplines at the institute include, among others, computer science and engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, materials engineering, biological engineering, mathematics, physics, chemistry, earth sciences, cognitive science, and the humanities.

The permanent campus at Palaj is spread along the Sabarmati river and houses academic blocks, laboratories, hostels, faculty and staff residences, sports facilities, and a central library.
