Background

The ICFAI Society, a not-for-profit educational society, set up a series of universities in different Indian states under enabling state legislation. The Sikkim institution was established as part of this expansion to extend the group's academic programmes to the north-eastern region of India. As a state private university, it is recognised by the Government of Sikkim and operates within the regulatory framework applicable to private universities in India, including oversight by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Academics

In line with other ICFAI universities, the Sikkim campus offers programmes across disciplines such as management, commerce, information technology, law, and the liberal arts, at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. Programmes typically combine campus-based teaching with the standardised curricula developed by the ICFAI group.

Location and significance

Situated in Gangtok, the university contributes to higher education access in Sikkim and the wider eastern Himalayan region, where the number of universities is comparatively small. It functions alongside other higher education institutions in the state such as Sikkim University (a central university) and Sikkim Manipal University.
