Mizoram is one of the smaller cricketing states in India. Its senior men's team began participating in BCCI domestic tournaments after the board, in 2018, extended full membership to several states from the North East and other regions that had previously been outside the main domestic circuit. This expansion opened pathways for cricketers such as Hmar Zothanchhunga to play in nationally recognised competitions.
Hmar Zothanchhunga has appeared for Mizoram in domestic cricket organised by the BCCI. The Mizoram team competes in tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy (first-class), the Vijay Hazare Trophy (List A) and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (Twenty20), within the Plate Group that includes other newer entrants from the North East and Union Territories.
Players like Hmar Zothanchhunga form part of the first generation of Mizoram cricketers to feature in India's main domestic structure, contributing to the development of the sport in a state where football has traditionally been the dominant pastime.
