A right-handed middle-order batter, she was part of the Indian women's side during a period in which women's cricket in India was administered by the Women's Cricket Association of India (WCAI) before its merger with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2006.

Kala emerged through the domestic women's cricket structure in India, which during her playing years was organised around state and zonal teams competing in inter-zonal and national tournaments. She earned selection to the senior India side on the strength of her domestic performances.
Kala featured for India in international fixtures across formats available to the women's game during her career, including Test matches and One Day Internationals. She was part of squads that participated in bilateral tours and ICC Women's Cricket World Cup cycles, contributing primarily as a middle-order batter.
At the domestic level, Kala played in the women's national tournaments organised first by the WCAI and subsequently by the BCCI after the 2006 administrative integration that brought women's cricket under the same governing body as the men's game in India.
Kala belongs to the generation of Indian women cricketers who played through the transition of women's cricket in India from a separately administered sport to an arm of the BCCI. Players from this period helped lay the groundwork for the increased visibility, professionalisation, and central contracts that the Indian women's team would later receive.
