Tector progressed through Ireland's youth cricket structure and was selected as part of the country's squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, which marked his first appearance in a major international youth tournament.
Tector made his full international debut for Ireland in September 2019, joining the senior set-up after his earlier exposure at the under-19 level.
In January 2020, Tector was one of nineteen players to be awarded a central contract by Cricket Ireland. This intake was significant in Irish cricket history, as it was the first year in which all of Cricket Ireland's central contracts were awarded on a full-time basis, reflecting the continued professionalisation of the sport in Ireland following its elevation to Test status.
Tector's progression from the under-19 set-up to a full-time professional contract within a few years illustrates the development pathway used by Cricket Ireland for its emerging players, and his inclusion among the first cohort of fully contracted Irish cricketers situates him within a notable phase of Irish cricket's transition to a fully professional structure.
