Harmanpreet Singh is an Indian field hockey player who plays as a drag-flicker and penalty corner specialist. He primarily operates as a defender or midfielder for the India national field hockey team and has captained the side in major international tournaments. Known for the power and accuracy of his drag-flicks, he has been one of the leading goal-scorers in world hockey in recent years.

Harmanpreet Singh was born in the village of Timmowal in Amritsar district, Punjab, into a farming family. He took up hockey at a young age and trained at Surjit Hockey Academy in Jalandhar, one of Punjab's well-known nurseries for the sport. He progressed through India's junior set-up before earning a senior call-up.
Harmanpreet was part of the India junior team that won the FIH Junior World Cup in 2016, held in Lucknow. His ability to convert penalty corners was a notable feature of that campaign.
He made his senior debut for India in 2015. He has since been a regular fixture in the Indian defence and a primary penalty corner taker. Major appearances include:
Harmanpreet was appointed captain of the senior India men's team in 2024, leading the side at the Paris Olympics and in the FIH Pro League.
He has represented Punjab in domestic competition and played in the Hockey India League before its suspension, turning out for franchises that included Dabang Mumbai. He returned to the relaunched Hockey India League in its later editions.
Harmanpreet is regarded as one of the world's foremost drag-flickers, combining high pace with variation in placement. He is also used as an injector and rusher in defensive penalty corner situations, and contributes from open play with long passing and overlapping runs from the back line.
Harmanpreet Singh is widely seen as a central figure in the resurgence of Indian men's hockey from the late 2010s onwards. His penalty corner conversions have been decisive in several high-profile matches, and his leadership at Paris 2024 reinforced India's standing among the leading hockey nations. Along with players such as P. R. Sreejesh and Manpreet Singh, he is part of a generation credited with restoring Olympic medal success to Indian hockey.
