Govardhan, also known as Giriraj, is a town and pilgrimage centre in the Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, India. It functions as a nagar panchayat and serves as the seat of a Tehsil within the district. The town is also represented by a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in the Uttar Pradesh state legislature.
Located about 23 kilometres from Mathura, Govardhan lies along the road link connecting Mathura with Deeg. Its position within the broader Braj region places it on the routes commonly used by pilgrims and travellers visiting religious sites in the area.
Within Hindu tradition, Govardhan is associated with the name Giriraj and is regarded as an important pilgrimage destination. The town's identity as a spiritual centre is closely connected to the wider cultural and religious landscape of the Mathura region.
