Gokul is a town situated in the Mathura district of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It lies approximately 15 kilometres (9.3 miles) south-east of Mathura, within the wider Braj region of western Uttar Pradesh.
The town is associated with the Vaishnava traditions of Hinduism, particularly with narratives concerning the early life of Krishna as recounted in texts such as the Bhagavata Purana. In these traditions, Gokul is remembered as one of the places connected with Krishna's childhood, and it forms part of the pilgrimage circuit of the Braj region along with neighbouring centres like Mathura and Vrindavan.
Owing to these religious associations, Gokul attracts pilgrims and visitors throughout the year, with festivals connected to Krishna observed by devotees. The town's identity is closely linked to the broader cultural and devotional landscape of the Mathura area.
