George John Bailey (born 7 September 1982) is a former Australian cricketer who represented the national team across all formats and captained Australia in limited-overs cricket. At domestic level, he played for Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield, the One-Day Cup and the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash, and later turned out for the Hobart Hurricanes and the Melbourne Stars in the KFC Big Bash League. Bailey also featured in the Indian Premier League and the T20 Blast, and played club cricket in Scotland with Grange Cricket Club.
Bailey was appointed Twenty20 captain of Australia in 2012, succeeding Cameron White ahead of the two-match series against India, which ended 1–1. In doing so, he became only the second Australian to captain an international match without having previously played one, after Dave Gregory in the inaugural Test match. On 1 May 2013, he was named vice-captain of the Australian ODI side for the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, and he subsequently led Australia in ODIs in India in the absence of Michael Clarke.
In November 2013, Bailey was selected in the Australian squad for the 2013–14 Ashes series against England. He played all five Tests of the series before being dropped from the Test side. He was later part of the Australian squad that won the 2015 Cricket World Cup. In the 2017–18 season, he received his first Ricky Ponting Medal, awarded to Tasmania's best player from the previous season.
Following his playing career, Bailey moved into cricket administration, and in August 2021 he was appointed chief selector of Cricket Australia.
