The Galgotias Educational Institutions were founded by Suneel Galgotia, who established Galgotias Institute of Management and Technology (later Galgotias College of Engineering and Technology) in Greater Noida in the late 1990s. Building on this base, Galgotias University was set up as a private university through a state legislative enactment by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, and is recognised by the University Grants Commission under the relevant provisions of the UGC Act, 1956.
