Khalili played in an era when women's cricket in India was administered separately from the men's game by the Women's Cricket Association of India. Indian women played their first Test match in 1976 and their first One Day International in 1978, and the late 1970s and early 1980s saw a small pool of players forming the core of the national side.
Khalili appeared for India in international cricket during this early period. She featured in matches against touring sides and in overseas tours that helped establish India as a competitive presence in women's cricket alongside countries such as Australia, England, New Zealand and the West Indies.
As a member of the early India women's squads, Khalili belongs to the cohort of cricketers who laid the groundwork for the later expansion of women's cricket in India. The administrative integration of women's cricket under the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2006 built upon the foundation created by these pioneer players.
