Farrukh Dhondy

Overview

Farrukh Dhondy (born 1944) is an Indian-born British Parsi writer, playwright and screenwriter. He is also known as a left-wing activist. He has lived in the United Kingdom since the 1960s, when he first travelled there.

Dhondy worked in British television as the Commissioning Editor for Multicultural Programmes at Channel 4. He held the post from 1984 until 1997, a period of more than a decade during which he shaped a notable strand of the broadcaster's output.

Among the programmes he commissioned during his tenure at Channel 4 were Bandung File and Devil's Advocate. Through such commissions, his role contributed to the representation of multicultural perspectives on British television.

Alongside his television career, Dhondy has been active as a writer and playwright, and has been associated with screenwriting. He continues to be based in the United Kingdom.
