Eros Cinema occupies the Cambata Building, a mixed-use structure that combines commercial offices and a cinema auditorium. It stands on a prominent corner plot facing Churchgate station and the Oval Maidan, an area developed as part of the Backbay Reclamation Scheme during the early twentieth century. The cinema is among a cluster of Art Deco theatres in South Mumbai that also includes the Regal, the Metro and the Liberty.
The building is characterised by streamlined massing, horizontal banding and a stepped, tiered façade typical of late 1930s Art Deco design in Bombay. The exterior incorporates cream-coloured stone with red Agra sandstone trim, while the interior auditorium and foyer feature decorative motifs, marble flooring and stylised murals associated with the period. The cinema seats audiences across stalls and a balcony level.
Eros is regarded as a significant example of Bombay's interwar Art Deco heritage, illustrating the city's adoption of the international style for entertainment buildings. It has historically screened both Hindi and English-language films, serving as a leading premiere venue in Mumbai for several decades. Its inclusion in the UNESCO listing reflects the broader recognition of Mumbai as home to one of the largest concentrations of Art Deco buildings in the world.
