The group's flagship listed entity, Edelweiss Financial Services Limited, began as an investment banking and advisory firm and progressively diversified into a multi-line financial services platform. Over time, the group built businesses across both lending and non-lending segments, and structured its operations through specialised subsidiaries focused on distinct customer needs.
The group expanded through a combination of organic growth and strategic acquisitions, building scale in asset reconstruction and asset management. It entered the life insurance segment via its joint venture with Tokio Marine Holdings of Japan. The group has also raised capital from global institutional investors across its subsidiaries, including in its credit and wealth platforms.
In a major restructuring, the group's wealth management and capital markets businesses were demerged and rebranded as Nuvama Wealth Management, which was subsequently listed on Indian stock exchanges as a separate entity. This sharpened Edelweiss Financial Services' focus on its asset management, credit, asset reconstruction, and insurance businesses.
Edelweiss is regarded as one of India's larger diversified non-bank financial groups, with a notable presence in the asset reconstruction segment, where it has been among the prominent buyers of stressed corporate loans from Indian banks. Its asset management arm has also grown into a meaningful participant in the Indian mutual fund and alternative investment industry, particularly in fixed income and private credit strategies.
