Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Bravo developed into an all-format cricketer capable of contributing with both bat and ball. Beyond cricket, Bravo is also known as a performer, having pursued work as a singer.
Bravo made his international debut for the West Indies in 2004. Over the following years he became a central figure across all three formats, eventually serving as captain of the West Indies cricket team. He played 40 Tests, 164 One Day Internationals and 91 Twenty20 Internationals before stepping away from international cricket.
Bravo first announced his retirement from international cricket in October 2018. In December 2019 he reversed that decision and came out of retirement with a view to the 2020 T20 World Cup.
Alongside Trinidad and Tobago, Bravo featured for a number of teams in franchise leagues around the world. He continued to play in such competitions until announcing his retirement from all cricket in September 2024.
Following his playing career, Bravo took on roles within the Knight Riders Group of franchises. He serves as the mentor of the Kolkata Knight Riders and as head coach of the other teams operated by the group, including the Trinbago Knight Riders.
Bravo's career coincided with the West Indies' resurgence in limited-overs cricket, particularly in the Twenty20 format. As an all-rounder skilled in finishing innings with the bat and bowling under pressure in the closing overs, he played a defining role in three major ICC tournament victories and helped shape the modern template of the T20 specialist all-rounder.
