Dumaria is situated in the southern reaches of Gaya district, in a tract where the alluvial plains transition into low hills and forested uplands. The wider region is drained by tributaries of the Phalgu and Sone river systems. The terrain in and around the block includes patches of dry deciduous forest, agricultural fields, and rocky outcrops typical of southern Bihar.
For administrative purposes, Dumaria functions as the headquarters of the Dumaria block in Gaya district. The block forms part of the larger administrative hierarchy of revenue subdivisions under the Gaya district collectorate, which itself falls within the Magadh division of Bihar. Local self-government is conducted through gram panchayats under the framework of the Bihar Panchayat Raj system.
The population of the Dumaria area is predominantly rural and engaged in agriculture and allied activities. Hindi is the principal language of administration and education, with Magahi widely spoken in everyday life, in keeping with the linguistic character of the Magadh region. The area has a mixed social composition, including Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities alongside other groups common to southern Bihar.
The local economy is based largely on subsistence and small-scale commercial agriculture, with paddy as a major crop along with pulses, oilseeds and seasonal vegetables. Forest produce, livestock rearing and small trade also contribute to household livelihoods. Like much of southern Gaya district, the area benefits from rural development and employment programmes administered through the block office.
Dumaria is connected to the rest of Gaya district by road, with district and rural roads linking it to nearby blocks and to Gaya town, the district headquarters. Gaya is the principal regional centre for railway and air connectivity, served by Gaya Junction railway station and Gaya Airport.
Dumaria is significant primarily as an administrative locality within Gaya district, providing block-level government services, schools, health facilities and agricultural extension to surrounding villages. Its location in the southern, hill-fringe portion of the district places it within an area of historical and ecological interest in the Magadh region.
