Dr. Abdul Haq Urdu University is a state public university located in Kurnool, in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh, India. The institution is dedicated to higher education and research with Urdu as a primary medium of instruction, and is named in honour of the Urdu lexicographer and scholar Maulvi Abdul Haq, often referred to as Baba-e-Urdu ("Father of Urdu").

The establishment of an Urdu-medium state university in Andhra Pradesh was conceived to address the educational needs of Urdu-speaking communities in the state, particularly in Rayalaseema and adjoining regions. Kurnool, which served as the first capital of Andhra State in the 1950s, has a long-standing Urdu cultural and literary tradition, making it a fitting location for such an institution.
The university follows in the tradition of named-medium institutions in India, comparable in its linguistic mission to Maulana Azad National Urdu University at the central level. It seeks to promote the academic study of Urdu language and literature alongside other disciplines.
The university is named after Maulvi Abdul Haq (1870–1961), a scholar widely credited with the modern standardisation and promotion of Urdu, and a key figure in compiling Urdu dictionaries and shaping Urdu pedagogy in the subcontinent.
