Ganesh emerged through Karnataka's domestic cricket structure, which has historically produced numerous India internationals. He developed as a seam bowler capable of swinging the new ball and contributing useful runs in the lower order.
Ganesh was a long-serving member of the Karnataka first-class side in the Ranji Trophy. During his playing years, Karnataka was among the leading teams in Indian domestic cricket, and Ganesh was part of the bowling attack alongside other Karnataka pacers and spinners of that era.
He was selected to represent India in Test matches in the second half of the 1990s. His international appearances were limited, and he did not establish a long-term place in the national side, with India's pace bowling resources at the time including Javagal Srinath and Venkatesh Prasad, who were also from Karnataka.
Ganesh is among the cricketers from Karnataka who played Test cricket for India during the 1990s, a period in which the state contributed substantially to the national team. His career reflects the depth of fast-bowling talent in Indian domestic cricket during that decade.
