Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, informally abbreviated as DAVV and formerly known as the University of Indore, is a state university located in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The university is named after Ahilya Bai Holkar, the 18th century queen and ruler of Indore, who was the daughter-in-law of Malhar Rao Holkar, the founder of the Holkar dynasty.
The jurisdiction of the university was initially restricted to the city of Indore. It was subsequently extended to cover seven tribal-dominated districts of the Indore division, namely Jhabua, Alirajpur, Dhar, Khargone, Khandwa, Burhanpur and Barwani.
Through this expanded jurisdiction, the university caters to the educational needs of Indore, one of the most industrially developed districts of Madhya Pradesh, while also serving the seven tribal and rural districts of the state.
