Devendra Fadnavis

Overview

Devendra Gangadharrao Fadnavis (born 22 July 1970) is an Indian politician currently serving as the 18th Chief Minister of Maharashtra. He assumed office on 5 December 2024 for his third term in the post. A member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he has also been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Fadnavis first became Chief Minister of Maharashtra at the age of 44, making him the second-youngest person to hold the office after Sharad Pawar. During the 2019 Maharashtra political crisis, he held a brief second term as Chief Minister for five days before resigning on 28 November 2019. From 2019 to 2022, he served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. He subsequently served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra in the Eknath Shinde government from 2022 to 2024, alongside Ajit Pawar from 2023.

Fadnavis has represented the Nagpur South West constituency in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly since 2009. Earlier, he represented Nagpur West from 1999 to 2009. Before entering the state legislature, he served as the Mayor of Nagpur from 1997 to 1999. Within the BJP, he served as President of the party's Maharashtra state unit from 2013 to 2015.
