The school is located in Chandigarh, a planned city situated near the foothills of the Shivalik range of the Himalayas. Chandigarh borders Haryana to the east and Punjab on its other sides, and forms the core of the Chandigarh Capital Region, which also includes the satellite cities of Panchkula in Haryana and Mohali in Punjab. The union territory lies approximately 260 km northwest of New Delhi, 229 km southeast of Amritsar, and 104 km southwest of Shimla.
Chandigarh is one of the earliest planned cities of post-independence India and is internationally recognised for its modernist architecture and urban design. The master plan of the city was prepared by the Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier, building upon earlier plans developed by Maciej Nowicki and Albert Mayer. Most of the government buildings and residential layouts were designed by a team headed by Le Corbusier along with architects Jane Drew and Maxwell Fry.
The city's Capitol Complex was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July 2016 at the 40th session of the World Heritage Conference, as part of a transnational serial nomination of Le Corbusier's architectural works.
Chandigarh, together with Mohali and Panchkula, forms a tri-city metropolitan area with a combined population of over 1.6 million. The city is noted for having one of the highest per capita incomes in India, and the union territory ranks among the highest on the Human Development Index in the country.
As an educational institution operating within Chandigarh, the school is part of the educational landscape of a city widely regarded for its planned urban environment, cultural development, and high quality of living indicators.
