Before entering films, Parashar worked as a model, a route taken by several actors of his generation who transitioned from print and commercial modelling into Hindi cinema during the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Parashar's filmography includes prominent productions of the early 1980s. He appeared in B. R. Chopra's courtroom drama Insaaf Ka Tarazu (1980) and the same director's Nikaah (1982), a film that addressed the subject of Muslim divorce and was a major critical and commercial success of its time. He was also part of the cast of Sharaabi (1984), starring Amitabh Bachchan.
In 2006, Parashar took part as a contestant on Bigg Boss, the Indian adaptation of the international reality format Big Brother.
Parashar is associated with a generation of male leads and supporting actors who entered Hindi cinema via modelling in the early 1980s. His association with B. R. Chopra productions, particularly Insaaf Ka Tarazu and Nikaah, places him within an important strand of socially themed mainstream Hindi films of the period.
