The company operates across several interlinked product lines:
DFPCL's principal manufacturing complex is located at Taloja in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, with additional facilities at Dahej in Gujarat and at Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh. The Taloja site houses integrated production of ammonia, nitric acid, ammonium nitrate, and isopropyl alcohol.
The company was founded by C. K. Mehta and entered the chemicals business in the early 1980s, initially focusing on methanol and later diversifying into ammonia and nitrogen chemistry. Over subsequent decades it expanded into technical ammonium nitrate for the mining sector, becoming one of the principal domestic suppliers, and broadened its fertiliser portfolio with imported and manufactured speciality grades. Group operations are organised under subsidiaries covering mining chemicals, fertilisers, and speciality chemicals businesses.
DFPCL is significant within the Indian chemical industry as one of the few integrated producers linking ammonia feedstock to downstream nitrates and speciality fertilisers. Its technical ammonium nitrate supplies a substantial share of the demand from Indian coal mining, metal mining, and infrastructure blasting markets, while its isopropyl alcohol output serves pharmaceutical and solvent applications.
