The university is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The Murthal campus lies along the Grand Trunk Road corridor north of Delhi, placing the university within the National Capital Region and giving it close access to industrial clusters in Sonipat, Panipat and the wider NCR.
DCRUST offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes organised through faculties and departments covering disciplines such as:
In addition to teaching at its main campus, the university acts as an affiliating body for engineering and technology institutions in Haryana, conducting common examinations and awarding degrees to students of affiliated colleges.
The university honours Sir Chhotu Ram (1881–1945), a prominent leader of the Unionist Party in pre-independence Punjab who championed agrarian reform and the welfare of farmers and rural communities. The "Deenbandhu" prefix reflects the title bestowed on him for this advocacy.
As one of Haryana's dedicated technical universities, DCRUST plays a role in producing engineers, scientists and managers for industries in northern India. Its location in the NCR enables collaboration with industry, research bodies and other academic institutions in and around Delhi.
