Dediapada is situated in the eastern uplands of the Narmada district, in a landscape marked by forested hills that form part of the Satpura range. The taluka adjoins the Shoolpaneshwar Wildlife Sanctuary, a notified protected area covering a substantial tract of dry deciduous and mixed forest. The terrain is drained by tributaries flowing north towards the Narmada river, which forms the broader catchment of the district.
As the headquarters of Dediapada Taluka, the town hosts the offices of the Mamlatdar and the Taluka Development Officer, along with associated revenue, police, forest, and rural development offices. The taluka is one of the constituent talukas of the Narmada district, which was carved out of the larger Bharuch district. Dediapada is also the name of a Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly) constituency in Gujarat, which is reserved for Scheduled Tribes.
The population of Dediapada and the surrounding taluka is largely tribal, with communities such as the Vasava and other Bhil sub-groups forming a major share. Gujarati is the principal language of administration and education, while local tribal dialects are spoken in everyday use. Agriculture, forest produce, and allied livelihoods sustain most rural households in the taluka.
The local economy is based on subsistence and small-scale agriculture, animal husbandry, and the collection of minor forest produce. The town functions as a trading point for nearby villages, with weekly markets, small shops, and service establishments. Government schemes for tribal development, watershed management, and rural employment play a significant role in the area.
Dediapada is connected by state and district roads to Rajpipla, the headquarters of Narmada district, and to other towns in southern and eastern Gujarat. State transport buses provide the main mode of public connectivity to surrounding villages and to larger urban centres in the region.
The taluka is associated with the Shoolpaneshwar Wildlife Sanctuary, known for its forested hills, waterfalls, and biodiversity, including leopard, sloth bear, and a range of bird species. The broader Narmada district is also home to the Statue of Unity and the Sardar Sarovar Dam, which lie further north along the Narmada river.
